Peripheral
Vascular Ultrasound
This examination evaluates poor circulation associated with leg
pain when walking or non-healing ulcerations on the legs or feet.
The arteries at the ankle are identified with a Doppler (electronic
stethoscope) and the waveform is recorded. Blood pressures are
taken at the ankles and in the upper extremities. The pressures
are compared and an index is obtained. The index quantifies the
distal circulation to the leg.
Abdominal Vascular Ultrasound
This examination measures the size of the abdominal aorta. If the
artery enlarges too much, it can rupture, leading to death. The
abdominal aorta is evaluated in multiple views. |
Measurements are taken of the mid and distal aorta to evaluate
for abnormal enlargement. Doppler velocities are taken in
the artery to evaluate for narrowing. Each procedure takes
10-20 minutes. You will receive your results within 1 week.
The results include the interpretation and copies of your
actual measurements. Also included are detailed brochures
describing vascular disease. To schedule your procedure,
please call 510-763-4614.
