Give the Gift of Life

ALAMEDA, Calif., March 9, 2006
Alameda Hospital and the American Red Cross Hosts Community Blood Drive
Date: Friday, April 7, 2006
Location: Alameda Hospital, 2070 Clinton Avenue, Dal Cielo Conference Room
(Room A, 2nd floor)
Time: 12 Noon – 6 P.M.

Modern medicine has made complex and life-saving surgeries possible. However, without a safe and plentiful supply of blood, no one would benefit from these advances. Only 5 percent of eligible donors in the U.S. actually donate blood; in Northern California that number is between 2 and 3 percent.
“ Many people know when you donate blood it goes to people in need, but what you may not know is how great the need is,” said Red Cross spokesperson, Becky O’Connor. “Every three seconds, someone needs blood.”

Blood not only makes many medical and surgical procedures possible, but also saves the lives of accident victims, cancer, cardiac, and organ transplant patients. To a child battling sickle cell anemia or a father waiting for a liver transplant, having a safe and available blood supply is more than a wish - it's a necessity.

To make a life-saving appointment to give blood at the Alameda Hospital drive, call Louise Nakada at
(510) 814-4362 or visit www.BeADonor.com (sponsor code is Alameda). In order to give blood, you must be 17 years or older, weigh no less than 110 lbs. and enjoy general good health.

And bring your driver’s license if you have one. American Red Cross volunteer blood donors are required to provide identification before donating blood. The preferred identifiers include a government-issued ID, such as a driver’s license, or a Red Cross blood donor card.
